My name is Cherisse,
and my brand is
called CervuS

As the founder behind the brand CervuS, it’s personal. The name originates from "cervus," Latin for "deer." To me, a deer represent movement, awareness, and quiet strength. They know when to stand still and when to run. That balance feels like my life, and what this brand stands for.

CervuS is built from where I’m from—Bed-Stuy—and who I am, growing up here shaped me. The energy of Black and Brown people expressing themselves without limits, that’s my foundation. We’re not one look. We’re not one voice. We’re a thousand stories, and CervuS is here to help tell them.

I’ve been a lot of those stories in my life. From eyebrow slits, Doc Martens, dyed hair, collars and baggy slacks, heeled loafers, to an eyebrow piercing, cowboy boots, and kinky, no-effort twists. I wanted to reflect my most recent style and mix it with my classical music tastes, to show that I am just one story in the plethora that is my people, that we are not just one story, but so many, in each person. 

I created this to be more than clothing. It’s a push forward, a reminder that staying in a box means staying still, and we weren’t made for that.

What are your intentions in joining the Rambler design program?
I would love to mix music in fashion, different genres in clothing, with musical elements. Music and self-expression is something that’s very important to me. I need to be able to express it in a medium where I can call all the shots in a new way: making clothing!
